Products & Features
Styrene Purification
Provides complete removal of TBC and water.
Tert-Butylcatechol (TBC) is often added to different monomers such as styrene and butadiene to inhibit polymerization during storage and shipping. TBC can inhibit polymerization in one of two ways: first TBC will react with dissolved oxygen to form quinone which acts as an inhibitor by reacting with chain free radicals thereby preventing propagation, and second the removal of dissolved oxygen prevents the formation of peroxides which are potentially dangerous polymerization initiators.
TBC must be removed from some monomer streams before polymerization is initiated and water often must be removed due to the hygroscopic nature of some monomers. The unique characteristics of this adsorbent minimizes green oil formation and surface polymerization reactions.
High Adsorption and Low reactivity Alumina Allows for Cyclic Styrene Purification
